What Is Fire Stopping?

Fire stopping, also known as compartmentation, is the preventative action taken to ensure a building is safe and compliant to government regulations. Article 17 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, in respect of the requirement for maintenance of fire safety provisions, states that it is advisable to set up a regular planned preventative maintenance programme for completed works.

T.A Construction Fire Protection is one of most experienced and respected specialist passive fire protection companies across the United Kingdom. With quality, compliance and value at the core of our offer, we can guarantee a real focus on customer satisfaction.

Working on time and to budget, we utilise cutting edge technology to improve customer service, working with you to ensure:

  • Fire stopping is installed to BS 476 Part 24, and compartmentation to BS 9999
  • Doors, walls, floors and ceilings protecting escape routes are capable of resisting the passage of smoke and fire for long enough to enable people to escape the building
  • Where suspended or false ceilings are provided, the fire resistance must extend up to the floor slab level above
  • Appropriate, approved details and manufacturers are used for all firestopping works

The best way to answer “Why firestopping?’ is by looking at the statistics.

  • 75% of all fire deaths are caused by smoke inhalation
  • Over half of fire-related deaths occurred in rooms where the fire did not originate
  • Smoke can fill a 20 by 20 by 20-foot room through a pencil sized hole in less than 4 minutes

Let’s make fire safety inspections simple…

In addition to providing the detail, T.A Construction Fire Protection will provide a suite of report conclusions and practical next steps.  These include:

  • A dashboard, highlighting in graphical form the report key findings
  • A snapshot report, showing findings by door at a glance
  • A summary report, detailing all the practical next steps to define a pathway to getting your building compliant

We can even provide full costs with your report, should you require it, for remediation of any defects found.

We’re able to fit a range of innovative and cost-effective products to protect and increase the life of your fire doors whilst reducing maintenance bills. All installed protection products are designed, tested and proven to retain full integrity even after prolonged abrasion and impact. Common areas where repairs take place are:

  • Leaf gaps
  • Threshold gaps
  • Light leaf/frame damage
  • Hinges
  • Fire Door Glazing
  • Door Hardware
  • Air Transfer Grilles
  • Door Closing Devices
  • Intumescent Strips
  • Signage

In instances where remidiation isn’t possible, we’re able to provide you with full support on new fire door installation.

LPCB/BM TRADA Accreditation

T.A Construction Fire Protection are proudly LPCB accredited for your peace of mind. LPCB has been assessing and approving fire resisting systems and fire protection construction products for more than 100 years and has one of the best equipped laboratories in the world. Ensure you use accredited installers of fire resisting systems and fire protection products when it comes to fire door repairs.

Outside of accreditation, it is crucially important that fire doors are installed and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. These instructions can also specify the necessary fixings; any deviation at all from the system specification or method of build which must be confirmed in writing before the work is commenced. It is often too late when the product has been installed to try to unpick, and this can also lead to costly remediation work.
